“I once tried to persuate him at lunch that certain activities in mathematical economics, hostile to his empirical values, were not good for economics. No, said he: we cannot tell; the investment in today’s existence theorem may pay off in the next century.”

“… Fogel does not view demographers and historians as engaged in som e ohter enterprise, which we economists safely ignore. Like most economists he believes in intellectual specialization. But unlike economists he is consistent in his economics: after specialization he also believes in trade, rather than pilling up of exports unsold in the backyard.”

(Strategic Factors in 19th American Economic History: a volume in honor of Robert Fogel.)
Não se o que é melhor: saber que o Fogel é um baita sujeito; ou a qualidade da prosa do Sr.(na época) McCloskey.
